Library Policies

Library Mission

The Clinton Township Public Library’s mission is to provide information, resources, and support for personal growth and education in a positive environment that enhances the life and development of the community.

Behavior in the Library

If a patron is creating a disturbance or causing problems in the library, the library staff has the authority or right to tell that patron to leave the library.  If that patron refuses to comply and continues to cause problems, the police will then be contacted to eject that patron from the library.

Circulation Policy

Individuals presenting valid borrower's cards issued by the Clinton Township Public Library are eligible to borrow materials from the library when the following conditions are met:

1. No materials are overdue on their card.
2. No outstanding fines in excess of $10.00 on their card.
3. No materials borrowed for them from another library are overdue in any amount.

The library staff may not waive these regulations without the specific permission of the library director, however, the patron may request a hold on the item he or she wishes to check out to allow the patron to correct the situation which has resulted in loss of eligibility to borrow.

Individuals presenting a valid card from another public library in Illinois may borrow materials from the Clinton Township Public Library.  The card must have the name of the individual presenting it, and a future expiration date.

Length of Loans:

Books and audio books may be checked out for 2 weeks with 2 renewals possible.  Magazines are checked out for 1 week.  Patrons may check out up to 10 of each of these items.  DVDs may be checked out for one week. 4 DVD's may be checked out at a time, with only 2 being NEW titles, per card are allowed and may be renewed two times if there are no holds on them.

1.  Retail replacement cost of any item which is lost or damaged beyond repair and for which a current price can be found.  There will be an additional $5.00 processing fee.
2.  For minor repair the cost will be determined by director.

Community Room Use

Our basement children's room is available upon request for community activities.  Please contact the Library Director for information concerning the possibility of using the room.

Computer/Internet Use

The library reserves the right to limit, refuse, and/or ban any patron from using the library equipment and computers.  Use is limited to patrons in good standing, i.e., all fines have been paid, all overdue materials have been returned, any lost materials have been paid for, and the patron has a current local library card.

Anyone under the age of 11 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while using library computers for internet purposes.  Reservations for equipment or computer use can be made at the circulation desk and without a reservation usage is on a "first come, first served" basis.  However, all users shall log in at the circulation desk prior to use to avoid conflicts with reserved times.  If a user has not logged in at the circulation desk, that user will be required to give up the usage if a patron who has logged in or made a reservation is waiting.

Usage is limited to half-hour blocks, however, the user may continue to use the computer in 30 minute intervals until another person wishes to use it.  If a person is more than 15 minutes late for a reserved time, the computer becomes open.  If a person is less than 15 minutes late, the allocated time will not be extended to reflect the tardiness.  Copyright laws forbid duplication of copyrighted software.  The Library may restrict the use of personal software on library computers.  Library software shall not be copied and must  be returned to the circulation desk before use of another software product.  There is a charge of $.25 for black and white and $1.00 for color, per page of printing from a library computer.

The library accepts donations at the circulation desk. The use of donations is at the discretion of the library director. Book and DVD donations will be considered for circulation. Some donations will be offered on our book sale rack.
